Geometry Goes Green
This year our geometry students will become more informed about "going green" within our school and within our community. We will call it G (cubed) which will stand for "Geometry Goes Green!" A local church has begun the installation of a "green roof" and I thought about the various ways we could follow this real-world application of going green along with a variety of other green projects, all from a geometric perspective. We will together be keeping abreast of what we can do individually and collectively to help save our planet. This video was designed to be a fun way to capture my students' attention and to get them thinking about the upcoming school year. Not only will we delve into more hands-on projects, but we will assume more personal responsibility into learning about environmental issues and social justice issues that are environmentally based. I believe it is crucial that our students are encouraged to become more environmentally conscious. I am hopeful that this interdisciplinary approach will not only inspire students to make their world greener, but it might also spur them into considering professions that will help preserve our planet.
